Weekend Update from Haiti

We have had a weekend of contrasts so far.  For instance, Friday night a storm came through bringing rains that pounded our tin roof.  Our team was in a meeting and we huddled together to pray concerned that the storm may be bad - I'll admit there was some fear among our team as the wind gusts picked up and rain sprayed through the screen windows.  The contrast came when two of our guys came down the hill to check on things and found all the Canaan kids dancing and playing in the rain.  We are finding that in many things our initial response is different than our Haitian friends.
Yesterday we had a great hike into the mountains to K'Piate - a mountain spring just a few hours beyond Canaan.  It was beautiful. The water was cold. We and a few boys from Canaan who came with us enjoyed some refreshing playtime in the spring.  But again a contrast - we passed villagers all along the way who were carrying water, supplies, and fruits down to the town for market.  We had our backpacks and hiking shoes. They were barefoot and carrying supplies on their heads or leading fully-loaded donkeys. Our "hiking path" is their mountain highway for industry and sometimes even survival. It was an eye opening experience.
The rest of Saturday was a pretty laid back. Today we will have church.  Andy Byers will be preaching and Sarah and Justin will be helping with worship.  The plan is for a joint Creole/English service from top to bottom.  Please pray for a good time of worship with our new friends.
Andy, Mandy, and Jordan will be flying out tomorrow, so if I don't get to update before then, please pray for their travels. Also pray that God will continue to reveal the contrasts between our cultures and the constant between them which is the Truth ... the Gospel ... and our only hope.
