A couple of quick, but cool conversations from today. One was with a young man named Mark. Over the past few days it was obvious that Mark has advanced language skills beyond most of the kids in the morning camp. Mark's father works for Ericsson and spent a few years in the states when he was a child. So we've asked Mark to hang around and talk a little bit after the camp and have been walking him through the more advanced adult curriculum. Mark is a very smart twelve year-old who can hold conversations in English about banking, law, and government. Today he was talking about discrimination and we began to talk about groups that are discriminated against in Hungary. We began to talk about Gypsies and the hate that many Hungarians show towards Gypsies. Many Gypsies live in separate Gypsies villages and are seen as thieves who don't desire to improve their life. Yesterday he learned the word "compassion" and he used it to describe his feeling towards Gypsies. We talked about how "God created all men equal" and that was a belief that he holds as well. To the knowledge of the Paulus people Mark is not a believer, but God seems to be working in his heart through these conversations so pray that God will do His work.
Another interesting story was a walking tour the beginner class did today with Ralph and Scott. They asked each member of their class to show some place in the town and talk about what happens there. One of the girls, Nikki, who is not a believer, picked the Catholic church in center of town. She described the building, but when she was asked what goes on there, she said "I don't know, I've never been in." With Janos' help, Ralph and Scott described what people do in a church. They were able to talk about "worship" and "honoring" God. She asked Ralph what he does in the church and he talked about teaching people about the Bible and caring for people. Janos then described in Hungarian the difference between the Hungarian perspective of "church" and what really happens in evangelical churches. It was a cool moment. Pray for Nikki that God will call her to Him. God is working in the countless hearts tonight beyond these two, pray for them all.
Praise God that we were here to be a part of His work.
The "Rooster Award" went to Queen Darlene, who has been a saint this week. She is always working behind the scenes to serve our entire group, while trying to care for her children, and prepare for her classes. Tonight she took a small group of advanced learners who were not participating in class outside and worked with them individually. She has been instrumental in planning every full group activity with the morning camp. She has been a humble servant of this group and we are so thankful for her. Tomorrow is the last day of camp and English classes! Pray that God will be mighty! That, like John 3:30, we would become less and He would become more.
