San Diego

With Tuesday and Wednesday nearly in the books, it is hard to believe that we are over halfway done with our trip. The day camp continues to be a huge success with approximately 160 neighborhood kids there each day hearing a clear message of who Jesus is, making crafts and playing games and eating good food. Two fun highlights to share: first, last night we prepared a bbq dinner for all the interns/counselors at the camp (some of whom are not believers yet) on the beach overlooking san diego bay on a beautiful 65 degree night. Schooners sailed by and seals and porpoises swam by during the evening. After we ate, we sang wonderful praise songs and enjoyed an encouraging message from Pastor Stephen about the meaning of God's grace and about how we are God's workmanship created for good works. Second, the last 2 days, we began helping Marnie, a delightful single woman who has brought her harvard training to san diego to start a charter school which should dramatically help some of the city heights youth prepare for college (since their public education is rated the worst in san diego). We have helped her with odd jobs and painting in her fix er upper house located in city heights in preparation for her move date of this Saturday. We will be back there our last 2 days as well. All in all we are having a wonderful time and feel privileged to be a small part of what God is accomplishing in san diego.
